Microneedling & Skin Treatments in Calgary

At Cool Laser Skin Studio, we offer professional microneedling in Calgary alongside a full menu of skin treatments — chemical peels, custom facials, and dermaplaning — to address your skin concerns at every level. Whether you’re targeting acne scars, fine lines, dullness, or simply want to keep your skin healthy and youthful as you age, we build a personalized treatment plan around your specific goals.

Every client receives a complimentary skin consultation before treatment. We assess your skin type, concerns, and history to recommend the right combination of services — because great skin rarely comes from one treatment alone.

Microneedling in Calgary — E-Pen Collagen Induction Therapy

Microneedling is one of the most effective anti-aging and skin resurfacing treatments available — and it is suitable for all skin types and tones. At Cool Laser Skin Studio, we use the E-Pen microneedling device, a Health Canada approved system designed with precision, comfort, and results in mind.

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling — also called collagen induction therapy — works by creating thousands of controlled micro-injuries in the skin using ultra-fine needles. These micro-channels trigger the skin’s natural healing response, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin from within.

Starting at age 25, we naturally lose collagen every year. Microneedling is one of the most effective ways to counteract that loss — keeping skin strong, firm, and youthful over time. It is not just a treatment for a specific concern; it is a long-term investment in your skin’s health.

Why the E-Pen Is Different

Not all microneedling devices deliver the same results. The E-Pen sets itself apart from standard dermarollers and basic pens in several important ways:

  • Health Canada approved — a regulated, medical-grade device you can trust
  • 7,000 RPM needle speed — the high rotation rate creates a significantly higher number of micro-channel injuries per pass, which directly translates to stronger collagen stimulation and better results
  • Glide method for full coverage — a smooth, controlled gliding technique ensures complete, even coverage across the treatment area with no missed spots
  • Comfort-focused design — the precision and speed of the device minimizes trauma to the skin compared to manual rollers, and numbing cream is applied before every session
  • No track marks — high-quality needles and the glide method mean no linear scarring or uneven texture post-treatment
  • Treats multiple areas — face, neck, décolleté, and body areas can all be treated

What Microneedling Treats

Our Calgary microneedling treatments are effective for a wide range of skin concerns:

  • Acne scars and post-acne marks
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Loss of firmness and skin laxity
  • Uneven skin texture and enlarged pores
  • Pigmentation and uneven skin tone
  • General collagen loss and early signs of aging
  • Preventative anti-aging for clients in their mid-20s and beyond

What Does Microneedling Feel Like?

Microneedling is a well-tolerated treatment for most clients. Before we begin, a numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to take the edge off and ensure your comfort throughout the session. Most clients describe the sensation as small prick points — certain areas of the face may feel slightly more sensitive than others, but overall the treatment is very manageable.

During treatment, 1–3 passes are made over each area depending on your concern and skin response. Because the E-Pen fires at 7,000 RPM, a high volume of micro-channels are being created with each pass — this is what drives the collagen response and makes the treatment so effective.

Downtime & What to Expect After Microneedling

Microneedling has a short recovery period compared to more aggressive resurfacing treatments. Here is what to expect:

  • Skin will appear pink to red immediately after treatment — similar to a mild sunburn
  • Skin may feel warm and tight for the first 24–48 hours
  • Most clients experience 1–3 days of visible redness before returning to normal
  • The skin will begin its healing and collagen-building process in the days and weeks following treatment

Microneedling Pre-Care Instructions

  • Stop all active ingredients (retinols, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide) 4–6 days before your appointment
  • Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for at least 10–14 days prior
  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin
  • Book a complimentary consultation beforehand — we review your medical history, medications, and contraindications to ensure microneedling is right for you

Microneedling Post-Care Instructions

  • Avoid sun exposure and use SPF daily to protect the healing skin
  • Avoid heat and sweating for 72 hours — no saunas, hot yoga, hot tubs, or intense exercise
  • Keep skin cool, calm, and hydrated. Post care kits are included in your treatment
  • Do not apply active ingredients (retinols, AHAs, BHAs) for at least 5 days post-treatment
  • Do not pick, scrub, or exfoliate the skin — let it heal naturally

How Many Microneedling Sessions Will I Need?

Most clients benefit from 3–5 sessions per year, spaced every 4–6 weeks. This timing is intentional — it aligns with the skin’s natural healing cycle and collagen production timeline, ensuring each session builds on the results of the last.

Clients treating deeper acne scarring or more advanced signs of aging may require additional sessions. We will give you a personalized recommendation at your free consultation based on your specific skin concern and goals.

Is Microneedling Safe for All Skin Types?

Yes — microneedling is safe for all skin tones and Fitzpatrick types. Because the E-Pen uses mechanical needle penetration rather than heat energy, there is no risk of heat-related pigmentation damage. This makes it an excellent option for clients with darker skin tones who may not be candidates for certain laser or light-based treatments.

Microneedling is not recommended for clients with:

  • Active cystic acne in the treatment area
  • Active rosacea or dermatitis
  • Certain blood-thinning medications
  • Pregnancy or nursing

If you are unsure whether microneedling is right for you, a complimentary consultation is the best place to start. We go through your full health history before recommending any treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions — Microneedling & Skin Treatments Calgary

Is microneedling painful?

Most clients find microneedling very manageable. We apply a numbing cream before every session to minimize discomfort. You may feel small prick sensations in certain areas, but overall the treatment is well tolerated.

How long does microneedling take to show results?

Some clients notice an initial glow within a few days as the skin heals. Deeper results — collagen remodelling, scar reduction, and improved texture — develop over 4–6 weeks following each session and continue to improve with each treatment in the series.

Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?

Microneedling cannot be combined with other treatments on the same day. However, we offer a complimentary multi-treatment skin plan that strategically sequences microneedling alongside peels, laser facials, or other modalities for the best possible long-term outcome.

Is microneedling safe for dark skin tones?

Yes — microneedling is safe for all skin tones including Fitzpatrick types IV–VI. Because the E-Pen uses mechanical needle action rather than heat or light energy, there is no risk of heat-related pigmentation damage, making it one of the most inclusive skin treatments available.

What is the difference between microneedling and a chemical peel?

A chemical peel works primarily on the surface by exfoliating the outer skin layers. Microneedling works beneath the surface, stimulating collagen production and remodelling the skin from within. Both are effective — and they complement each other well when used in a strategic treatment plan.
